Select Start, then select Control Panel. 2. Make sure "View by Category" is selected, and select Uninstall a program. 3. Select Organize, select Layout. Make sure that the Details Pane is checked. If not then select Details Pane. The Details Pane will be shown at the bottom of screen. 4. Select Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)(patch version...). 5. Check the product version in the Details Pane. Device Manager: 1. Select Start. 2. Right-click/touch and hold on Computer, and then select Properties. 3. At the left pane, select Device Manager. 4. Double-click/Double-tap the Bluetooth Radios category 5. Double-click/Double-tap Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R). 6. Select the Driver tab. 7. Check Driver Version. Determine if KB3172605/ KB3161608 is installed on the system: 1. Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account. 2. On the Windows Desktop, select Start, then select Control Panel. 3. Make sure "View by Category" is selected, and select Uninstall a program. 4. Click "View installed updates" on the left side of the Control Panel window and look for "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3172605)" or "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3161608). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTES Microsoft's KB3172605/ KB3161608: July 2016 update rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 will cause older versions of Intel Bluetooth driver to malfunction. This malfunction includes driver uninstallation and upgrade installation over older driver versions. If Microsoft KB3172605/ KB3161608 and an older version of Intel Bluetooth driver are both installed on your system, please uninstall KB3172605/ KB3161608 from your system prior to upgrading to this driver. Refer to UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS section on how to uninstall KB3172605/ KB3161608. Please reinstall KB3172605 after upgrading to this driver. It can be reinstalled by running Windows Update or by downloading it directly from Microsoft web site. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Note: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section. - Manual installation of this driver is recommended when attempting reinstallation after it has previously been uninstalled on your system at least once. - If both Microsoft KB3172605/ KB3161608 and an older version of Intel Bluetooth driver are installed on the system, please uninstall KB3172605/ KB3161608 first prior to the Extracting file process of Manual Install. After installing this driver, please reinstall KB3172605. - To determine if KB3172605/ KB3161608 is installed on the system, please refer to "Determine if KB3172605/ KB3161608 is installed on the system" in the DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED section. - To uninstall KB3172605/ KB3161608, please refer to "Uninstalling KB3172605/ KB3161608" in the UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS section. Manual Install This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Downloading file 1. Select the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear. 2. Follow the instructions on the screen. 3. In the window to choose Run or Save, select Save. 4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to, and select Save. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. Extracting file 5. Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account. 6. Press F8 key to display the Wireless Radios Master Control screen and turn on Bluetooth. 7. If Found New Hardware Wizard is opened, select Cancel. 8. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded. 9. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click/double-tap it. 10. Follow the instructions on the screen. 11. In the Select Destination Location window, select Next. If you would like to select a different folder, select Browse. 12. In the Ready to Install window, select Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 11. Installing files 13. Close all applications. 14. Make sure the checkbox next to "Install ..... now" is checked and select Finish. 15. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer. Note: Make sure to restart the computer. Finally delete the file saved in the step 4. Unattended Install This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Refer to the Manual Install section, and download and extract the file. 2. In the step 14 of the Installing files section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then select Finish to cancel installation. 3. Close all applications. 4. At the command line, execute SilentInstall.bat with the /qn option. Example: [Path where the files were extracted]\SilentInstall.bat 5. Select Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)(patch version...), and select Uninstall or Uninstall/Change. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete uninstallation and restart the computer. Note: Make sure to restart the computer. Uninstalling KB3172605/ KB3161608 1. Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account. 2. Select Start, then select Control Panel. 3. Make sure "View by Category" is selected, and select Uninstall a program. 4. Click "View installed updates" on the left side of the Control Panel window. 5. Double-click on "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3172605)" and click the "Yes" button on the "Uninstall an update" window. Wait for the uninstall process to complete and click "Restart Now" when prompted. 6. Wait for your system to finish the reboot process. Uninstalling KB3172605 by Command Line 1.
